Using Images in Posts on Cord Cutter Talk

edited May 2017 in CCT Announcements
Good day ya'll!

Just a quick note on using images in posts here on Cord Cutter Talk.

The forum software we use here at Cord Cutter Talk allows images to be inserted into posts in two ways - directly uploaded to Cord Cutter Talk or hot-linked (remote) from an external source. However; to conserve our bandwidth we prefer that you use an external source to host your images. There are a variety of ways that this can be easily done but I will cover two simple methods below...

Flickr - using Firefox browser
  • Create a free Flickr account if you don't already have one.
  • Login to your existing or new Flickr account.
  • Upload the desired image to your account.
  • Select the uploaded image from your 'Photostream'.
  • Select the 'Download this photo' option (bottom right of page).
  • Select 'View all sizes'.
  • Select the desired image size (preferably under 600px in width).
  • "Right Click" the image and select 'copy image location' (this copies the image URL to your PCs clipboard and should look something like "https//c1.staticflickr.com/9/8344/8211873235_51c28f415e_q.jpg").
  • Paste the Flickr image URL into the 'Image URL' box in the post editor window of Cord Cutter Talk.
  • Profit!
  • Sign up or login to Flickr.

Cloudinary
  • Create a free Cloudinary account if you don't already have one - you will be given a modest storage and bandwidth allowance to use for free which should be sufficient for most users.
  • Login to your existing or new Cloudinary account.
  • Click 'Media Library' in your account dashboard.
  • Upload the desired image to your account.
  • Select the uploaded image within your account dashboard.
  • Select 'Resize & crop' to adjust image to desired size (preferably under 600px in width, I generally use about 450px) - this feature is what makes Cloudinary so awesome, because they allow you to customize the size of the image that you want to display.
  • Copy the image URL from the bottom right of your dashboard (will look something like "http//res.cloudinary.com/bricknews/image/upload/c_scale,w_150/v1485740069/Mega_Bloks_Minions_Blind_Packs_S3_v1_600px_sgvdc4.jpg").
  • Paste the image URL into the 'Image URL' box in the post editor window of Cord Cutter Talk.
  • Profit!
  • Sign up or login to Cloudinary.
