What is Plex?

Plex is a client-server media player suite that comprises of two main components, the Plex Media Server which organizes music, photos and video from your personal library and streams it to a Plex Media Client.


A Plex Media Server can run on Windows, macOS, FreeBSE or a Nas while a Plex Media Client can be a Plex App running from a mobile device, smart TV or streaming box.

A premium version of the service, called Plex Pass, is available and offers advanced features like access to cloud storage, access to discounts and the newly launched Plex Live TV.
